Shelby was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare while volunteering at a hospital during high school. She enjoyed building relationships with patients and wanted a career where she could help others. After high school, she worked as a home care provider and became a certified nursing assistant. These experiences confirmed her passion for healthcare and led her to further her education at Michigan State University.
Shelby pursued an undergraduate degree in kinesiology and exercise science to become a physical therapist. One day, her college advisor suggested she explore a career in POP. She shadowed at a POP clinic and fell in love with the profession. Shelby was especially drawn to building long-term relationships with patients.
After finishing her undergraduate degree, Shelby completed her master’s in orthotics and prosthetics at Northwestern University and is currently a POP resident in Nashville. She loves seeing her patients’ joy when they take their first steps with the prosthetic devices she helped make.
