Salina began her career as a surgical technologist providing vital operating room support to orthopedic surgeons. She shadowed clinicians throughout the surgical center, including a joint specialist. During that time, she observed a prosthetic device fitting and was moved by the emotions in the room.
“I witnessed a patient stand up and realize their device enables them to reclaim their quality of life,” said Salina. “The experience inspired me to pursue this profession.” This moment led Salina to refocus her education and career goals.
Salina is wrapping up her Master of Science in Orthotics & Prosthetics Eastern Michigan University. She enjoys her upper prosthetic courses the most, as they push her to think outside the box. In one of these classes, she created her own prosthetic device, which gave her a pointed opportunity to experience and understand the mobility challenges that people with limb loss and limb difference face.
Salina looks forward beginning residency and becoming a certified prosthetist orthotist, supporting patients of all ages on their individual rehabilitation journeys and helping them achieve their goals.
