Riley Burgoon

Riley first encountered POP in a high school adaptive physical education class that taught her how to support students with disabilities. Interacting with peers who used orthotic devices helped Riley understand the purpose of POP. Riley realized this was a career that would perfectly blend her interests in healthcare and creativity.

Riley finds inspiration for POP in her interactions with patient models at Northwestern University. She says students who want to learn about POP should reach out to practitioners in their community to explore shadowing opportunities to gain firsthand exposure to the profession. Riley looks forward to learning about upper limb prosthetics in the upcoming semester.

I’m inspired by the many different routes POP students can take to help patients of all ages and backgrounds.
