Meghan Hancock

Meghan was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome—a connective tissue disorder that can affect the skin, joints and blood vessels—in her teens. Her multidisciplinary care team of orthotists, physical and occupational therapists and podiatrists helped her manage her condition and inspired her to pursue a career as a physical therapist.

While Meghan was studying kinesiology and biomechanics at Auburn University, a peer encouraged her to visit WhatIsPOP.org. The website reminded her of the positive experience she had with her care team, ultimately inspiring her to shift her focus of study. Meghan connected with POP Ambassadors, coordinated shadow days to learn more about the profession and decided POP was the perfect fit for her.

Meghan is completing her master’s in prosthetics and orthotics at Kennesaw State University and hopes to work with older adults and veterans. Her shadowing experiences showed her how POP professionals help improve people’s quality of life, just as her own care team did for her. Now she wants to do the same for others.
