Kylie loved athletics from a young age and knew her passion for mobility could help others, but she had trouble deciding which healthcare profession was right for her. A serendipitous conversation with a family friend who was a certified prosthetist orthotist ignited her curiosity to learn more about POP. Kylie felt inspired by her friend’s description of the patient-clinician connections that came out of the profession and looks back on that day as the start of her POP education journey.
Kylie finished her final undergraduate semester with a POP internship that led her to the University of Pittsburgh’s prosthetics and orthotics master’s program. Kylie looks up to the strong example of dedication to care and craftsmanship set by her professors as she considers what she wants her POP career to look like. She recommends that other students who wish to learn about the profession follow WhatIsPOP on social media and look online for resources from ABC and other organizations that support POP professionals.
