Kayla volunteered with local non-profits supporting people experiencing homelessness starting in middle school. Her first exposure to POP was helping those who lost fingers or toes to freezing weather. Kayla was determined to find a career that would allow her to give back to others more meaningfully, so she enlisted the help of her occupational therapist father to connect with a local POP professional. After seeing how she could use her love of art and engineering to help others, Kayla fell in love with POP.
Kayla is a second-year orthotics and prosthetics master’s student at California State University Dominguez Hills. During her clinical hours, she helps fit people experiencing homelessness with prosthetic devices. She enjoys the hands-on nature of the profession and wants to specialize in prosthetic devices. When she’s not volunteering, Kayla works as a wedding photographer. Kayla also dreams of operating her own mobile prosthetics lab to better help those experiencing homelessness.
