Elizabeth Petito

Elizabeth knew she wanted to pursue a POP career beginning in sixth grade when she discovered the book “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer. The main character has a prosthetic hand and foot. It was that character’s determination that inspired Elizabeth.

Elizabeth later chose to major in Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The program was suggested by a doctor who knew of her interest in POP. Her interest was solidified after she began shadowing at a local clinic between classes and during summer break. Her POP journey came full circle when she had the opportunity to observe the assembly and fitting of a myoelectric hand prosthesis—just like the one that she read about in “Cinder” a decade earlier.

Fast forward to today. Elizabeth is a CU Boulder graduate in her first year at the University of Pittsburgh’s masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics program. Elizabeth looks forward to being part of what makes daily life more manageable for her future patients.

If I can make someone’s prosthetic device more comfortable or easier to wear, I can have a real impact not just on their mobility, but on how they feel when they get up in the morning.
