De’Jah explored different healthcare careers in rehabilitation, nursing and other specialties before discovering POP. It was the combination of clinical care, hands-on work and problem-solving tailored to each patient’s unique needs that drew her in.
Currently pursuing a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics at Alabama State University, De’Jah is motivated to increase diversity within the POP profession. “As a Black woman entering this field, representation is important to me,” she says. “Many patients do not always see providers who look like them, and I want to change that.”
As De’Jah prepares for her prosthetic and orthotic residencies, she looks forward to becoming a well-rounded clinician, building relationships with her patients and creating a space where they feel comfortable and supported.
