Growing up, Alex witnessed members of his community rely on prosthetic and orthotic devices but had no idea he could build a career around customizing those devices to improve people’s mobility. He became fascinated with the science of movement and pursued a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. He briefly considered a career in physical or occupational therapy but pivoted to POP after his professor introduced him to the “best profession he never heard of.”
Alex began shadowing at local POP clinics and was captivated by what he saw. He is now an orthotic and prosthetic resident in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. Alex experiences all the variety POP has to offer through his rotations at the local children’s hospital and level-one trauma center.
He looks forward to completing his residency, selecting a specialty and becoming a certified prosthetist orthotist. Alex also works with the So Every BODY Can Move initiative to ensure those with limb loss or limb difference have access to equitable healthcare. Alex is passionate about helping others in his hometown and beyond move better and encourages anyone interested in learning more about the profession to shadow at a POP clinic.
