While working in petroleum and chemical plants in Louisiana, Adam suffered a shoulder injury that required physical therapy. During his recovery, he also happened attend his sister’s Doctors of Nursing Practice graduation. His team of physical therapists, sister and brother-in-law inspired him to return to school and pursue an undergraduate degree in exercise science. He wanted to change lives like they were doing.
Adam landed an internship at a local prosthetics and orthotics clinic during school. Working as a millwright and boilermaker prior to returning to school, he quickly learned the technical skills required for the job. The experience made Adam wonder if orthotics and prosthetics was a better fit for him. Knowing he still wanted to work with patients and with his mentor’s guidance, Adam decided to pivot to a career in POP.
Adam is now completing his master’s in prosthetics and orthotics at the University of Pittsburgh and hopes to return home to Louisiana to work with veterans.
