Lukas is a certified prosthetic and orthotic technician and enjoys building new devices for each patient. Every patient needs a device that is a different shape specifically tailored to them, which creates an exciting challenge. Growing up, Lukas would create pinewood derby cars and work on projects with his dad. Building on this creativity, he pursued his bachelor’s degree in biological pre-medical illustration at Iowa State University.
Lukas attended a lecture in undergrad where he learned about prosthetic ears and noses which planted the seed for O&P. Years later, Lukas discovered a program for orthotics and prosthetics in Oklahoma and immediately recognized that it was the perfect path for him due to his interests in fabrication and art. Since then, he has gained experience working at different companies nationwide and is currently an orthotic and prosthetic technician in Baltimore, Maryland. He fondly remembers a touching moment when a patient was utterly amazed by a foam cover created for their device. Such moments are powerful reminders of the meaningful impact of his work.
Lukas has recently explored the world of 3D printing and 3D scanning and is hopeful that the industry will embrace digitalization more in the future, as he sees it as the key to progress and innovation. He believes 3D printing enables technicians to create highly detailed and unique products that fit patients’ needs perfectly.
